Is a copy edit and a line edit the same thing? The answer is NO!

Sometimes, the differences between a copyedit and a line edit can be unclear. Knowing the specific goals of each type of edit can help you anticipate what to expect and decide which type of service to book.

A copyedit with KLS focuses on:

  • Grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors.

  • Missing, wrong, and duplicated words.

  • Providing some in-line comments and suggestions when appropriate.

A line edit with KLS focuses on:

  • Identifying basic inconsistencies.

  • Reworking sentence structure for clarity, consistency, and flow.

  • Suggesting specific rewrites when appropriate.

Our editors can also provide general feedback on the overall manuscript at the authors request.
